Shelburne Museum
The problem that I faced was: How do we allow customers to interact more with Shelburne Museum? The museum has so much to offer, but what is the easiest and clearest way to communicate all of these great assets to museum visitors?
After doing research and visiting the museum itself, I designed an app that visitors could use to plan their trip to the museum and use during their visit. An app helps the audience stay connected with the museum, improve visitor experience with clear organization of information, and connect the physical space of the museum with the digital space that is a part of our everyday. A user can learn more about what events are going on, where they should go, and what they should see during their museum visit.
The main features of the app are the calendar of events, information on the various exhibits, collections, and buildings, an interactive map to help one find their way around the campus, and general info one may need to know to plan a visit.
While this app was never actually developed, I enjoyed thinking through the details of the interface and user experience. A sticky navigation at the bottom of the screen allows for easy access to the app’s four main features. I used After Effects to create a video to explain the function of the app. This work was presented to the board at Shelburne Museum, who applauded the app design for its practical functionality and user-friendliness.
